Hi, I’m Simon, and welcome to Jersey Index.
I’m a lifelong sports fan with a slightly unhealthy obsession: jerseys, shirt numbers, and the stories behind them.
Whether it’s an iconic NBA jersey, a classic football shirt, or tracking every player to wear a particular number for a team, I’ve always been fascinated by the history that lives inside a jersey.
Jersey Index was created because I wanted a place where fans could easily explore that history. Not just the famous shirts everyone knows, but the obscure ones too—the forgotten players, unusual number choices, one-season jerseys, and the details that are surprisingly difficult to find anywhere else.
Why I Built Jersey Index
As both a sports fan and a web developer, I love building websites around data.
I’m obsessed with collecting, organising and presenting information in ways that make it enjoyable to explore. Whether that’s every player to wear #23 for the Chicago Bulls, every shirt number in Manchester United’s history, or complete season-by-season jersey records, I enjoy turning scattered information into something searchable and useful.
Many of the databases you’ll find here have been researched and compiled over hundreds of hours, and they’re continually updated as new seasons begin and more historical information becomes available.
More Than One Project
Jersey Index is part of a wider collection of sports history projects that I run.
I’m also the creator of:
- Casual Football Shirt Archives – documenting classic football shirts and football shirt culture.
- The Nameset Lab – exploring football shirt namesets, lettering styles and kit printing history.
Each project shares the same goal: preserving sports history through detailed research and making it accessible to fellow fans.
The Teams I Follow
When I’m not adding another jersey to the database, you’ll usually find me following my favourite teams:

- 🏀 Toronto Raptors
While those are my teams, Jersey Index is built for every sports fan, regardless of who you support.
